The artist
Paintings that begin where words stop.
Laury does not plan a painting. She listens for one.
Each work begins with a feeling rather than an image — a mood carried in from a walk among the redwoods, the heat and hush of the high desert, the shifting light along the California coast. She lays down colour in response, and then responds again, layer over layer, until the canvas holds what she felt.
With a master’s degree in psychology, Laury understands painting as more than image-making. Her practice is rooted in mindfulness: attention to the present moment, to the body, to what arises without judgement. The studio becomes a place of therapeutic expression, where intuition leads and the mind follows.
The result is work that is both expressive and quiet — gestural marks and earth-drawn palettes that invite the viewer to slow down, to notice, and to feel something of their own.
Intuition
No sketches, no fixed outcome. Each painting is discovered in the making.
Mindfulness
Present-moment attention guides every mark — painting as a practice of noticing.
Landscape
Forests, deserts and coastlines of California, remembered as feeling rather than view.
